Are you a member of any of the Brother Quattro or Babylock Ellisimo groups on Yahoo? If not, you might want to join. I belong to three of them and the members are pretty informed (not me though ). There is one group that won't allow brand names to be mentioned but the group policies will indicate that.

Hmmm - how do you join Yahoo groups? I don't know where to look on Yahoo.

For seeing an exact replica "icon" of what the design is (picture) next to the file name, I use Embrilliance Thumbnailer - think I bought from Designs in Machine Embroidery (you can google it) for $39.95 and I found it very worthwhile.

I re-named the files with what they actually were...i.e. small turkey gobble gobble is a small turkey with the words gobble gobble at the bottom....

Depends on what machine you are using. Different machines use different software. If you have BuzzExplorer software it will let you convert designs from different software designers to what you have. Also a web site called Wilcom will let you do the same thing and it is free but more difficult to use.
Hope this helps. If no I'll try to you more info if you can give me more details..

Embird is an excellent program, not overly expensive. I haven't gone into the digitizing side of it, just the basic which allows you to change format, split designs and do simulated stitching and look at designs in 3D. I find it it very easy to use and does all that I want from the software.

Thank you, romanojpg, for this link: http://www.freesierrasoftware.com/ I had forgotten about them, would love to learn to digitize and am thinking of taking the plunge with this - looks like minimal investment. Debra Jones of My Embroidery Mentor has a tutorial available also and the way she does tutorials, is probably quite helpful.

To edit or change machine ext., I have used Edit and Stitch from Amazing Designs ($199) and it lets me do all the changing patterns to proper extensions, resizing, coloring, and I even have the pattern up on my laptop when I am stitching it out to see what is going to stitch next and color. Remember, too, when doing colors - you may have a color on the screen, but it is the color of the thread you load that is going to stitch out. If you have purple on your screen and you decide to sew it with yellow, put a yellow spool on sew, you don't need to go back and physically change the color. What is important is where it is sewing. My Brother machines only have the black and white screens that are not very helpful. Also, I rename the files too when I save them, once you have downloaded the pattern, the vendor's numbers etc. don't mean anything to anyone else - it helps me keep my sanity! :-)

Kim, I use the following FREE software. My Editor. They do have a new software, but I have found this software easy to use (there IS a learning curve) and results are good. It also saves in most embroidery files (PES, etc). Go for the gusto!! And don't forget to have fun!

Hi, I have the Ellisimo and use Studio software by Designer's Gallery to view the files. The designs will display if you click on either the design or folder. Depending on how much you want to spend check on Ebay, I saw a package there last week that was $38.95 and allowed you to view your designs, it's called Embrilliance Thumbnailer Embroidery Machine Design Software for PC and Mac, worth a shot for the price. Good luck, Judy outside Tampa

I too have several embroidery files I have collected over the years.

When I open my documents, using Win7, in the upper right had corner I can select how I want my files to be viewed.
