This is very common in south Louisiana. Usually shrimp and crabs. We all buy from them, no one I know has had any problems.

One time a young guy came to our door and told us that the refrigerator unit in his delivery truck broke down and he had all this meat he had to sell quick at a great price. We didn't buy. This was probably 15 years ago. I am amazed they still go around doing that kind of thing.

Yes, I did have this happen once. I told him we were vegan. Then he said how about some fish? I thought to myself -why would I buy fish from a guy selling it out of his truck? Ewwww!

In Poteau, Oklahoma, bought tamales from a Mexican lady in the parking lot. They were sooo good. She was a lovely person, and we bought again. Soooo good. Would definitely buy again.

Won't buy the meat now but back in the late 70s and early 80s I used to buy some gourmet entrees from a guy that supplied the local upscale restaraunts. I worked in a salon and knew the owners of the eaterys, checked his references, the real deal. He would only come in when he had extras. Everyone knows that beauticians like to eat good. LOL.

Glad I am not the only one that found this odd. They came into my neighborhood about four months ago, selling steaks out of the back of a pickup truck that were sealed in vaccume type packages. He was taking the packages in and out of the freezer in the middle of summer showing my neighbors and anyone who would listen. I told him outright, that there just wasn't something kosher about someone selling meat out of the back of a truck.
I found the entire thing bizarre!
