Our whole house is built of steel with steel roof and good for 30 years without repair. We have phone service put in and computer service and TV service from day one. Only problem has been a door bell...or lack of because it will not come through the steel siding. Dh was creative and installed a wire 'ringer' that is connected to a small dinner bell inside the house. No problems with the phones or fax machines.
A move to the center of a pasture sounds like a very good idea...peace and quiet to quilt and to enjoy the sun rising and setting.

We had a metal roof put on when we built our house 17 years ago. And we have a lot of trees. Honestly, our cellphone is no problem--older phones were but the newer ones have no problems getting reception. And we live miles and miles from a cell tower. Ours came with a 50 year warranty, which is a lot better than shingles. And snow doesn't lay on it long like it does with shingles. As soon as it starts warming a little, the snow starts sliding off--real fun when you are coming up the steps and it slides down the back of your coat! If we had it to do over, we would stay with the metal roof.

I like the idea of a metal roof, but the only colors I have seen around here have been really bright, like bright red, or bright blue, or mustard yellow. Just now on line I see they do come in more subtle colors, too.
Maybe I don't notice those subtle colors on area houses because they blend in.

I put a metal roof on 4 years ago. Even with added insulation, it cost a little over half the lowest shingle estimate. I was very surprised, though pleasantly, of course.
