When you store your stuff, just make sure to label it. That way, when you are looking for a spacific fabric, you can find it.

If you can bring yourself to do this, I think Rebecca has a great idea. Sell the stuff you can part with and only keep the very dear. It will give you a little extra cash, solve the storage issue and when you do move into a house again you can buy NEW fabric. Fabric ages too, you know. Fabric that you love now may not be so cute in a few years. It's hard to prune but it keeps the creative juices flowing. Okay, I must get off the computer and go do some cleaning of my own. I hope it's helped you to see how many caring people here have been in your shoes.

Do you have family that has some storage room , say like an attic or basement? Maybe they or a few friends might be able to help take some things and store for you instead of getting rid of it all?? Just a thought.

Good luck and best wishes,
Sharon

I lost my sewing room when my son came along. I feel your pain, but I got a whole basement (yeah, whoopie, in the dungeon) for my sewing. Oh and the treadmill, my husband weights, freezer, panty cupboard, the washer and dryer, furnace....

But I have heard a good way to store fabric out of site is between the mattress and box springs, or maybe the crib mattress and springs.

Go buy the biggest Rubbermaid Trash cans on wheels. It will hold tons of fabric! It can sit right outside your back door, the lids fit very tight and have handle locks on them. Put a zip lock bag with slits cut in it full of charcoal in with the fabric to keep all the musty smells away.

My kids seemed to move all the time before settling down. We used these big trash cans to move every household items they owned. Easy and no bending over to pick up boxes. They roll right in a truck and right off. All of the ones filled with books were left outside and no rain ever got inside of them.

For the last two years, we have lived in a little (crappy) trailer that seems to be sucking the life out of me while we are waiting to be able to build a house. I can clean it and clean it, you blink and it's cluttered again. With the arrival of my Baby Girl a year ago, it has worsened exponentially! Last night I had a small meltdown. I have been struggling to keep our bills up to date (since being off on maternity and then returning only part time has made things difficult) but things get lost regularly in this vaccuum black hole of a trailer and I realized that I forgot to pay several bills somehow last month. In discussing with my husband some ways to solve these recurring problems, the biggest solution is, of course to declutter. Right now the only real storage space in our house is taken up by my fabric, books and magazines. The determination was that they need to go. It's all about priorities...sadly, my hubby's priorities differ from mine. I am allowed to keep only one tote in the house to hold WIP's. I am really sad that I won't have easy access to my beautiful fabrics anymore!
I know that none of you can help in any way shape or form, but I am just looking to vent and maybe have a little pity party for a minute. :(
Hope you all have a nice day Ladies and Gents...I am off to purge my stash.

I know how you feel, I have been living with my mother for 6.5 years until I could move to my place. I have yarn, fabric and some of my books in storage. I am finally moving to my place to begin getting it into livable shape in the next two weeks. I am sooo excited. I will finally have privacy and room for my stuff eventually. It will take me some time to get to the point where I can move all my craft stuff home. But at least I will finally have a place to cut and sew. I will at least be able to move it from the storage building so it is closer to me and I will have easy access to it.

Finally, my patience is paying off and someday yours will as well. Look on the bright side you have time to plan the perfect sewing room for when you finally build. Most of all enjoy the process -- my sewing room has changed several times over the last 4 or 5 years as my requirements have evolved.

Good Luck!

Soo sorry to hear you're upset about storing your fabric. GLAD to hear you have a little one that NEEDS you...she deserves you.

Questions though...I don't remember if you mentioned how long you plan to put fabric in storage? How much will you have to pay for it to be stored? Will you LOVE the fabric you paid to store when you take it out? Do you think it will be all yucky and smelly? Can you sell some 'somewhere' and make a few extra dollars? I like the idea of putting a container at a friends house.

Keep what you LOVE and find a place for it (love the idea of raising the bed or going up higher in the room...what about closet floors?). When you get breaks from motherhood, work on one small project at a time. The time will come soon enough that the kids have moved out and it's just you and the hubby!

Good Luck and (((((HUGS))))))

put it were it is easy to get to, then when you are ready go and pull out what you need. but you sound very deppressed, maybe you could go stay at a family members house for a few days and get out of what is sucking the life out of you. get a new perspective of what you want to do. you are in my prayers, God bless you.
