The Shining - the book and the movie. I remember closing the windows before I went to bed and definitely seeing the shrubs walking towards the house. I've tried to watch the movie again, but just can 't.

The Wizard of Oz was the scariest when I was young. Twilight Zone shows were scary when I was older. There's an Audrey Hepburn movie where she's blind - that was really really scary when I got older. I usually shy away from scary movies now. But I watch a lot of forensic shows, so I've probably replaced the scary movies with scary reality.

The original movie.........Last House on the Left made back in the 70's. Its not a scary flick as these things really do happen and that's what scared me the most plus at the time we were living out in the country. The book that scared me the most controlled my life for the entire time I was reading it and then for the next 6 months I was frightened of everything. Of course I can't remember what the name was but they made a movie of it. They would show an hexagon window at the top of the peak of the house and James Brolin played the father in the movie. I'm thinking Margot Kidder played the mother. The name is Amityville Horror. That book and movie scared the B-gimmies out of me and still does when I think about it. Supposed to be a true story and even though the family moved from that house, whatever was in the house has followed them. Now that's scary.

I read a book of fairy tales when I was in the 4th grade. Bluebeard. I can still smell the book in my mind, and probably why I let people open a door and enter a room before me.

Mine is a double date drive-in movie story too, all 4 us ended up in the front seat, girls in the middle, the movie was Night of the Living Dead. Kept us away from scary movies for awhile

i was petrified of the witch of the West at about 4.
also, Outter Limits and Twilight Zone when i was about 5 or so.
my brother loved these shows, we had 1 tv in the house in a small 4 room apartment.
i was tortured by Lost In Space too.
what a horrible show that was. and the scenery was so cheap too

Several stand out. I was 7 or 8 when I saw Wizard of Oz. My mother had to take me home because the green face of the wicket witch scared me. Then in high school, I saw House of Wax (3 D) and the guy swinging out toward the audience scared me. I had nightmares of him coming into my bedroom. I watched The Silence of the Lambs on the VCR--scared me (I don't remember why, turned it off and never watched it. I was an adult.

Some of the Twilight Zone shows scared me, too. The Audrey Hepburn movie was "Wait Until Dark", I think. It was very scary. I'd forgotten about that one.

The Alfred Hitchcock Show used to scare me also. I don't know why my parents let me watch it! Or why I wanted to watch it!
