I used carpet tiles in my sewing room this summer and I love them. Less expensive than other options and easy to install and looks great!

Guess I am a little late to this discussion, but I would love love love to get rid of the low loft carpet in my sewing room. Pins weave their way in to the point that even a magnet will not pick them up. Shoes are mandatory in my sewing room. Threads become laden with static and want to cling to the carpet instead of succumbing to the vacuum. I would gladly put up with a little more noise.

I am with Quiltingshorttimer. Snap together vinyl tiles are how I would go if I could not remove all the furniture and put down sheet vinyl. They are simple to install and you may be able to get a good deal during Black Friday sales. I would not veto sheet vinyl. It can be very inexpensive and depending on the size, you might be able to get a remnant.

Sandy, if you have have such a thing in your area, see if you can contact someone who does commercial renovations and see if you can get squares as left-overs, back in the day it would be in the yellow pages under Office Interiors (Remodeling). Your size of area could be great for what commercial considers "small batch" even though home contractors would consider it large room sized. Of course in this day and age, the internet is awesome, now that you know your square footage a site like this might give you the choices you want:
https://www.icarpetiles.com/factory-...s-on-sale.aspx
(note, no affiliation all I can say about this company is it did not put my virus scans into orbit)

Having worked in the trades, I'd rather go discounted high end than trying to get what I want at my budget at home stores. Commercial stuff is simply designed for high use better.

edit: Also look at this as an opportunity to quilt... you can line the outer edges with one tile and fill in the middle or other wise mix and match whether in checkerboards or other designs. It takes about as much to go around a perimeter as fill in the middle so you would need about the same about of two tiles to do the outer border concept.

I never thought about carpet squares or carpet tiles to re-do my sewing room floor. It sounds like a good option to consider. Thanks for sharing.
