But the front load is fantastic! I highly recommend.
I have one of the "newer" high efficiency top loaders and that is my number one complaint! I cannot soak anything because the tub does not fill up with water. I have to send all my "soaking" home with my mom because she has a regular washer. It also does not dye fabrics very well, either.

Other than that, it uses less water and holds more, so I do fewer loads.

I have the Whirlpool Duet set (front loading) I've had a hard time getting it level, so there's a little vibration, but my son in his early twenties who thinks he knows everything is the one that set it up..its on a pedestal because my back doesn't do the bend and reach anymore!! But I love it, my water bill has decreased significantly (from $150 or more to 115 this last time for 3 months) and my gas bill is much lower too :D There is a pre wash, but no soak. But the 'whitest whites' cycle gets work socks and t-shirts much cleaner that soaking or prewash did in the old toploader. I love it and the grand daughter always wants to help granny with laundry so she can push the buttons (which make noise) and watch it start washing!!..an added bonus indeed

I have a maytag, top loader which I love. But have heard such wonderful things about front loaders. My next machine will definitely be another Maytag (that is if I ever need another machine) and I will try a front loader.

I have a Samsung set and love them. My water bill has also gone down as well as detergent. It takes very little and clothes are clean. No problem with mold.

I forgot to mention..I never leave it closed up when I'm finished with it so it can dry out and I do run a "clean" cycle about every 6 weeks with a cleaner tablet called "Afresh" as recommended by Whirlpool. Cleans out the soap scrum behind the basket and sanitizes. You can find them by the laundry stuff at the market.

I have a Samsung front load and love it. I can get so much more in the machine, and use less water and detergent. It's very quiet and I've not had any vibration problems.

I do leave the door slightly ajar and have not had any problems with mold. I'd never go back to a top loader.

I bought a new washer and dryer Jan. 2, 2010. Both my washer and dryer broke Jan. 1, 2010. Same time, go figure. I don't over think appliances. They are all more energy efficient then any old one and any new one is better then any broken one. I liked the look of the GE Profile, big stainless tub in washer and dryer, simple electronic controls, and 1/2 the price of the front loaders. They match, they wash clothes. That's all I need. I was washing clothes Jan. 3, 2010.

Not being able to soak anything is the only downside that I've run into with my front loader (I'm at work and, for the life of me, I can't remember what brand I have!). This is the second one I've owned, the first having lasted about 8 years but I think that was my fault, i.e., I always used the HD detergent but loved to throw a scoop of Oxi-Clean powder in with the wash.

To continue... one day I ran out of spray Oxi-Clean, which I love. Bright idea!!! Put some of the powder form into the now empty spray bottle and fill with water! And, to make it really work, shake the bottle! ___ Oh YES, this will work!___ So much for bright ideas.... it bubbled and fizzed and overflowed, covering the top of the washer before I could get it to the set tub! So, now I'm thinking, on retrospect, that throwing powder Oxi-Clean in the front loader probably has the same result, multi-fizz -- just what the front loaders don't like. I think my use of Oxi-Clean powder probably damaged the bearings on my first machine which caused it to sound like a train wreck.

Now, with the new front loader, no more Oxi powder, only the spray. Its been two years and it's still going strong. When a wash is done, and I'm not going to do more that day, I leave the door ajar. And, about once a month, to get them REALLY clean, I use the ultra-white setting and hot water to wash my towels; that seems to stop whatever moldy smell that might happen.

One last observation... mine has a clock on the front that counts down the wash time. That last minute, for the final spin, can last forever!!! One minute, my fluffy butt!! It's more like five minutes due to the sensor that determines how much water is still left in the clothes. Which reminds me.... if you do a small wash (e.g., a few blouses), the machine goes slightly bonkers, not getting all the water out in the spin cycle.

All that said, I love mine and will get another one again (obviously, since this is my second one). Good luck with your purchase. I think you'll like the front loaders.
