Default non-quilt sewing repair!

My husband tore his rain jacket that he just bought on Tuesday, on Wednesday! My first thought was to wiggle some patch material in behind the slit and iron it on. But it is one of those jackets made out of synthetic super dooper material and has a mesh lining. I might melt it! It's an 'L' shaped slit. Any ideas?? Thanks.

All I can think of is to some how open the lining and put a piece of tape - same color as the outer material - on the inside of the tear. Then stitch up the lining.
My husband had a tear in a nylon windbreaker and I did melt it - so stay away from the iron.

They do have glue type patches for rain gear. Check at Joann's, Hobby Lobby..etc. My BIL tore his hunting pants from stem to stern and duct taped it together. He couldn't believe it when my DS threw them away. Said they were good as new.

If you used your credit card to purchase it you can usually return it and replace it. (just one of those benefits of using a Visa!)

Check in the sleeves and see if there is a place where they sewed the lining together. If so you can unpick it and turn the coat inside out to fix it from the inside.
