I just bought a small bottle of olive oil. I tasted of it and it kinda taste rancid. I've never bought it before or tasted of it. Is that what its supposed to taste like? Its dated 2012 and was sealed so it should be fresh.

I use olive oil all the time and have done for years- it shouldn't taste rancid. Even if it's within it's date and sealed, exposure to direct sunlight can cause it to go off. It should be kept in a dark place, and this doesn't always happen in the shop, transport etc. If yours is 'off', this is probably why. I agree, take it back and exchange it. Don't use it, rancid oil is mildly toxic, I believe.

I use Olive Oil everyday. It should have a pleasant smell, so if your's doesn't I would return it to the store for a refund. Just because the date is good doesn't mean that it isn't possible that it was tainted in the processing of it at the factory or mishandled during it's distribution. Olive Oil should never be stored near heat or light. Hope this helps. ;)
