So long as no one takes away my "Cool Beans" all will be well with the world.

As far as spellings that get to me...I get sooooooo tired of telling my kids that "a lot" is 2 words NOT 1!

Another one, when anyone says "me and..." I don't think they teach in school any longer that we say
<place name here> and I, or me (depending on the statement) is proper.

I have to admit to one thing, though, that I say which drives my BF up the wall.
I rarely say 'turn out the light', or 'turn off the light'
I say close the lights. It's a direct translation from french, I have always said it that way, have always known better, but it's just one of those things I don't even think about!

Baren, maybe I should start saying it that way. Around here when I say please turn on the light, undoubtedly someone will look up at it and say "Oh baby, you're so hot" or something along those lines. LOL

Well how else are we supposed to say it?
I say open the light, too, even though I know it's wrong.
come to think of it, we say 'ouvre la lumiere' or 'ferme les lumieres' here, but it really should be allume or éteint...

My bf says some things in french that are direct translations from english and make NO sense, no matter how many times I correct him ( his french is not as good ) he still says it wrong EVERY TIME... and so does his twin brother.

He will say 'aussi beaucoup' instead of 'autant' meaning as much or as many, but the way he says it is just rediculous... it's not even something he picked up from somewhere else. NOBODY says that, it doesn't make any sense and it drives me crazy! Every time he goes to say it I cringe and I'm thinking 'don't say it, don't say it!!!' and he does it EVERY time!!! GAH!

One thing that I have remarked on here in Iowa and I have heard it elsewhere we say warsh for wash and fer instead of for. Some of these are regional.

When I was in jr. high we sent out a list of words to differant parts of the country to other schools and asked

Do you call it

a couch or a sofa? We say couch here usually.
a potato or a spud? We say potato
a trunk or a boot? Trunk is used here.
There were alot more but that is all I remember.

My grandmother always said davenport forwhat I thought was the couch or sofa. Some real country folks say taters.

My DH and my MIL say Walmark instead of Walmart and they say dest instead of desk. Poor grammer or colloquialism?
