We hide the pickle every year I have a small pickle ornament and our grandkids never fail to ask if I hid the pickle yet, always have to tell them I dont hide it until Christmas morning. We have a special gift for the one that finds it. Dont think the kids will ever grow out of looking for the pickle. Our grandkids range from 4 to 29.

I have had a pickle for my tree for over 20 years. Also a spider on its web...can't remember the story behind it. A couple of years ago I made pierogies for the tree and as gifts for my polish friends... then my son-in-law wanted a ravioli. No story behind the pierogie or ravioli just my silliness

We do the pickle on the tree. My kids are grown now but still look for it and are excited when they find it. My husband keeps it in a box in his dresser and hides it on the tree Christmas eve so no one can scope it out ahead of time.

We have had a small glass sweet jerkin pickle for our tree for years. Our grandchildren are now nearly grown, the two youngest graduate this spring. I thought they were getting too old but at Thanksgiving they reminded me to not forget "The Pickle" this year. So we will hide the pickle once again this year.

I thought it was an Irish tradition. My DD's in-laws always did this...first time I had heard of it!

Yes we do; my kids are part German and so we added this to our Christmas and the kids love it. My daughter got my pickle after she moved out. Her kids are really young now but the 7yr old loves doing it. When she first started with him, she'd buy a great gift for him and after all of the presents were open, everyone would look for the pickle, including adults but of course we made sure he'd find it.

I actually emailed emblibrary last yr to see if they had a pickle in their archives because I only found one pickle mach. emb last yr and it didn't look to good. They said no but would check on making it this yr. I was so amazed that they actually made it, I really didn't expect to see one there this yr. It goes to show what a good company they are; they listen. I emailed Deb and thanked her for the design. I only have a small tree now and this is the perfect size; its just me but have to have at least a small ones for the grandbabies when they come over. With being a Christmas club member I got if for 1.25 even though the price was 3.99 and its so well done. Can't wait to do a few this week on my days off.

My grandmother used to hide a pickle in her tree... German heritage - I used to hide one on our tree until I started using a white Christmas tree... believe me - it is tough to hide a green pickle in a white tree.... Now the pickle is hidden somewhere in the living room. The kids have just as much fun finding where it is hidden in the room.

Awww I agree a green pickle would be hard to hide in a white tree.
But if you had a white (machine embroider lace) pickle it would be
well hidden. LOL

I used to have a white tree in my NC home. Than I moved back to
CO and didn't have a home big enough to hold my tree so I gave it
away.

Now I just don't put up a tree because my fur kids (3 cats) would
love nothing more than climb it, steal all the ornaments, and more
than likely trash the tree.

LOL

I have heard of this story, but I thought it came from England. I bought a glass ornament that looks like a whole pickle. I usually put it inside the tree somewhere where it's not in plain sight. My sons are not young anymore, so we don't continue with whoever finds it, get's a treat. I still hang it in the tree though.
