This was just on the 5 pm news here, Postmaster General is saying, closing down some processing/sorting centers, meaning mail will be delivered a day or two later than it is now. Example, here where I am in Lynchburg, they would be closing down our sorting station as well as Roanokes and move it to North Carolina, making it a delay to get things like bills within the allowed time so payment can be on time.
This would include outgoing and incoming mail - shame.
Said it would happen in early 2012 (Feb)

Yes it did, more people are using online to pay bills, email instead of old fashioned writting letters etc.Originally Posted by Dix

Our sorting center is closing as well... :(
And, I wonder how much of it is the union.. it doesnt make much sense why they continue to keep employees when there isnt work to do.. seems to me if the Post Office was run by the private sector, things would be a lot different.

They said it was to save money, Postmaster General said it was not responsible to keep going like they were as the amount of mail on a daily basis at certain places has dwindled. Originally Posted by MellieKQuilter

Said it cost in the $700,000 to move the equiptment from Lynchburg to Roanoke, now they are closing both and moving it to North Carolina? I see a big waste of money with that.
It will affect jobs at both, not carriers, but sorters etc.

Yeah..They are closing our processing center as well..laying off thousands of people across the country...They are actually saying that in a few years they will probably shut down USPS and make it all go private. They are also going to quilt delivering mail on Saturdays. Only 5 days a week.

I mostly get junk mail, which goes directly into the recyling bin. If it wasn't for daily credit card offers, my mail box would be mostly empty most days!!! BTW, I think junk mail is just a waste of good trees!
