My dear little one is 18, joined the army last summer, in college, in a Sorority and OMG prayers are needed for the next few years. All I can say is I remember when I was.. and that helped me a whole bunch understand why I was so STUPID, didnt know ANYTHING, why the boys.. uh you know.. love them sooo much and its not like THAT AT ALL.. yeah I remember those days. I say aside from those prayers buy yourself some good tea, beautiful fabric, a stack of great books because they will help you with patience when patience is so hard to be found.

My daddy got out his shotgun and was literally cleaning it each and every time a boy came to pick me up. He totally mortified me once by sending the young man home because he wasnt dressed well enough to take his daughter out. He had jeans on. We are not talking a zillion years ago.. this was in the 70's.. jeans? everyone wears jeans. But not to take me out. I had a good laugh at the story thanks for the memory. And you know.. I think it makes anyone think twice. He said bring her back in the same condition you took her out in and boy did he mean it. I had many one time dates because of dad he scared the beejebus out of the boys. I took on that roll too for my little girl and many a boy was not sure if I was serious or not but no one wanted to find out :)

I really wasn't kidding about the horse.....I used to run a boarding stable. I can't tell you how many teenaged girls spent every spare minute at the barn and hanging with the horses rather than chasing the boys. It gave them extra years to just be young girls and not get too involved in the boys quite yet.

It worked for me too...I got my first horse at 13...

Of course it didn't help that my Dad kept his guns right next to where he made the guys come in and sit down before we went out.

so glad I don't have to go through that any more, I had all boys, but some of the girls they brought home were something else. Penny

I know of people who were arrested for playing with a gun in their house when some teens came. One young man told his parents and the man was taken to the police station. He was told most people are killed by unloaded guns...they are not play things.
This was supposed to be a joke when the daughter was dating.

Those young boys have parents to. Guns should be locked up
I had 2 girls and a boy.......no guns please

As Truvy of Steel Magnolias said. The nicest thing she could say about the girl that her son brought home was all her tatoos were spelled right.

You could always tell prospective dates that you know how to castrate calves and are willing to demonstrate the technique to them. :) DH did that one of DD's dates and the boy got very white and totally quiet. She was pissed but it was so worth it.
