It's helpful to review the rules/guidelines/how to use sections of this forum every so often.

1. Vague thread titles
2. Bad formatting - it's not that hard to use periods and paragraph breaks. For those of us with attention issues, I generally pass on posts that are one huge paragraph.
3. Mean posters - some people say things that I know they would never say to someone's face. Or of they did, they'd probably be minus a few clumps of hair.
4. One word responses, such as "nice". That's only 4 letters. I mean, c'mon. Would you say that to a person who showed you their quilt in person? "Nice."
5. Threads that assume everyone here is female so refers to readers as "girls".

I apologize for all my misspelled words. And I want to thank you all who are helping me out to improve my English writing. :-D

My pet peeve is when there are misleading and vague subject lines.

I was just reading through this thread and would like to thank Holice for starting it. I am guilty on some of the issues and will be mindful of them in the future. I like this board for many reasons, so many thanks go out to the administration and members.

No punctuation marks. Some replies run on for a paragraph and it's all one sentence. I can't tell if a person is asking for advice, offering a suggestion, or just ranting. Mis-spellings I can usually figure out (I'm not the best speller) but if you can type, you can use a "period" at the end of a sentence. I skip most postings of this type because I just don't understand them.

2) agree on the PAGES of one or 2 word answers to pic postings. Now that I realize that they are a pet peeve of mine and others, I will cease and desist. But- will someone think I don't like it if I don't answer?

I'm a long paragraph person- because I talk a lot in person too! And typos- because I talk faster than I can type.

Now that I read these, I wil be a better poster. Good subject topic!

Hmmmm - I think I'm guilty at times of the one word response. Never mean to sound abrupt, but sometimes I don't have a lot of time, and don't want to ignore the pictures without making a comment so the person knows it has been seen and admired. I'll be mindful of that in the future and my apologies to anyone I may have offended.

To add to my earlier post about people letting us know when they have received a packet, I neglected to add that most times I have received lovely PM's, handwritten thank yous and even little gifts of appreciation. All of which were much appreciated and I always PM a thank you.

Saying "Very Pretty" or "Nice Job" or "Very Nice" in the picture section is one thing.... you are actually responding appropriately to someone's quilt..

But in the other sections you see a lot of "cool" "awesome" "wow" and those are not really saying anything or adding/contributing to the topic. This is what is discouraged according to the rules of most forums. Members who do this are usually just trying to increase their message count, and they are not contributing to the conversation at all. Saying "awesome!" I really like that new tool, is contributing, as well as, "Cool!" thank you for posting that upcoming quilt show.

In the links section, you may just say "thank you" and that is appropriate, as you are thanking them for posting the link.

In GCC when the topic is funny or a joke and there is kidding around... seeing a smiley or LMBO as a reply is also ok, as it applies to the nature of the subject.

I had to ask a while ago about board ettiquette as I did not know that it even existed... I was only aware of the actual board rules.

I'm not adapting well to the abbreviated spellings - examples:

sum1
b4
ppl

I don't mind the ROFLMA type abbreviations - maybe it's because I'm getting used to them.
