Anybody remember making chains from Fruit Stripe gum wrappers? ....in jr high (early 60's) it was penny loafers, and anything navy or maroon - pleated skirts were big. Fun thread to read!

There was only one girl in our town who had a horsehair petticoat and we wanted something so we made them out of real screenwire - ouch!

Ramona, I remember those electric perms too. I had long pretty hair and it was time to go to school so had to go get it cut short and curled to the scalp. Then it fell out for months. Thank God I only had one. I think they were rather expensive. Maybe that is what saved me.

I graduated in 1975. Our fads were plaid pants for the guys and girls, platform shoes, straight hair parted in the middle and gold metal granny glasses.
Those were the carefree days of youth.
Isn't it nice to remember them.
Peace and Blessings,

Oh, lord...reminds me of our typing teacher making us girls kneel on the floor in the hall to check the length of our skirts!

Oh those '80s! Yep, I had the jelly shoes, the Members Only jacket, the Swatch watch, all of it! I used can after can of hairspray...I fear I may be partly responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer!!! :D

Peace and Blessings,
'73 here - Yep, had the granny glasses, hair parted in the middle, platform shoes and boyfriends with plaid pants! How about madras plaids, paisley prints, and hip huggers/bell bottoms. My DH and I just saw a video with a young Nancy Sinatra singing and although she wasn't singing "These boots were made for Walkin'" she was wearing them along with a mini mini skirt. I remember wanting a pair of white go-go boots soooo bad, but mommy said I was too young! Waaaa! A favorite aunt finallly bought me a pair of white boot type bedroom slippers. OH... and how about hot pants and clogs? Whew....I am old! An 11 year old was present at one of my client visits and asked how old I was...I said, "Older than dirt." She glanced at her mom (whom I guess she had previously considered the oldest person she knew) and motioning from me to her mom said in an introduction sort of way, "Oh well then, meet dirt..." I thought she was being disrespectful until she said, "Well you said you were older than "dirt"...." Kids!

I must really be older than dirt. Some of the things that you're all referring to, I've never even heard of - jelly shoes, hot pants and dogs - is that short shorts and walking your dog? always heard that walking a dog is a good way to meet a nice guy.

BTW, we had to complete Driver's Ed in order to graduate High School. 1958
