I was never told when I was married that I snore, but my dd informed me this spring when were shared a room in an apartment on an extended vacation that I do snore.

I have ground my teeth since I was a child. I am sometimes aware that I am doing it, but I cannot hear myself.

I do use a white noise app when I sleep. It helps as I am a very light sleeper.

But my big bugaboo is that women are expected to share rooms and even beds, yet that same expectation is not put on men. Men are not told to economize and share a room. Even businesses expect their female employees to share a room, but the men get their own.

Other than with my kids, or very close friends, when there is no other option, I do not share a room or bed. I do not feel I owe anyone an explanation of why I do not want to share and I am happy to pay extra.

Having said all that, I will be going on an 18 day trip next May and will have a roommate. I am 51 and she likely will be 21/22. The roommates have not been assigned yet. I will bring her earplugs, use my white noise machine and try to remember my mouth guard. The trip is a great opportunity and logistically it is not possible to pay extra for a single room (small European hotels).

I snore loud enough to wake myself up. I'm also a thrasher. So I insist on a bed of my own and warn roommates to come equipped with earplugs. It's always worked out with no hard feelings when discussed ahead of time.

I've never been on a retreat but I like my privacy. I'm a bit of a recluse when I'm sewing and my work as a therapist has taught me the need for quiet to decompress. Plus...I'm a bathroom hog! LOL!

I feel so much better - relieved - that I am not the only one that prefers to not share a room - and especially, a bed - with other people.

I have not been to an overnight retreat, but I would prefer to have my own room. I'm a light sleeper, plus need some privacy.

You could room with me. I hear nothing. Some years ago there were 5 cop cars, radios blaring, lights flashing literally under my bedroom window. (I live in a two story town house) and what woke me up was the Telephone.... neighbor called to see "what was going on" as since I was the only neighbor NOT up and outside they thought the problem was at my home!! It was a couple of places down. OH, but my DD says I snore like a freight train. LOL

I have very strange sleeping habits so I prefer a private room.

Some retreatsdont have the option of having your own room. i know I snore bad so I use the Breathe Right Strips. Its helps a lot and my friends are much happier in the morning!

My quilt retreat group has a retreat twice a year in a lovely mountain lodge. However, due to the limited number of rooms available, there is no option for a private room. I just warn my roommates that I snore and to please forgive me. In one of the earlier posts, a sleeping aid called melatonin was mentioned. I will be seeing my doctor next month and I will ask her about this.

I was going to suggest the same thing for both you and hubby. My husband not only snored, he would stop breathing all together and that kept me awake a lot over the years. He has a C-Pap now and we both sleep better at night.

I prefer a room to myself after I tried a quilt retreat with some friends once. I was very uncomfortable with one of the ladies thinking it was all right to walk around the room topless and changing changing clothes in front of me despite the fact that we had a large enough bathroom to fit another twin bed in it. I like my privacy and sleeping through the night.
