Sent DH to grocery store......
#32
My DH is actually a very good grocery shopper. He gets the right stuff, and is very good at finding the good deals.
But once my SIL sent my brother to the store with a detailed list. When he got home, she asked him why he got a jar of pickles. He said in effect, "You wrote on the list 'fresh dill' but they didn't have fresh dills. I had to buy a jar." He had been walking around the store looking for one of those barrels loaded with pickles, that you have to pick out with tongs!

My wife and I usually shop together, so it's not a problem if she asks me to pick up something at the store. However - I have to tell a story about my parents. This was after I had moved out of the house, but was back for a visit.
My mother had sent my dad off to the grocery store for a few things, including toilet paper. She told me that no matter how many times she told him not to buy pink, he always came home with pink toilet paper. (Remember when TP came in pastel colors?) I told her that, more than likely, when he got to the paper aisle in the store, he'd think, "What color did she say?" And naturally, he remembered pink. I said that it might be better if she stop telling him what she didn't want and start telling him what she did want. (You know, that's probably true of most of us married folks.)
By the way, my dad brought home pink toilet paper that day.

Sometimes my DH volunteeres to do the groc shopping. As long as I give him a detailed list, he brings home what I ask for. We went to the store together the other day and I headed for the produce section. He said, "there isn't any produce on the list, why are we going to the produce section?" I rarely write produce on my list unless there is something specific I need. I told him that I don't write it down cause I want to see what they have and if they have something really good then I will get it. When the really nice Florida navel oranges were in season I really ate a lot of them. But when they were about gone I had sent him to the store and told him to get me some oranges. I like the ones wiath the big navel bump on them. He came back with smaller oranges and told me that they didn't have the big ones so he got the next best thing. The oranges were from africa and were not very sweet. I used them in muffins so they wouldn't go to waste.

My DH loves to go to town and always gets groceries for us. (we're 17 miles from town.) He's a very sociable person and I like to stay home. So I love it when he does this. He pretty much sticks to the list, except when he adds his favorite doughnuts or caramel rolls. He is a keeper, too.
