I vote for it matching the house, it would blend in and look much neater...

The outbuildings on my dad's farm where I grew up were white with blue trim, including the barn. In fact, the majority of barns in our township were white. Having said that, my grandmother's barns were red, except for the machine shed. She lived in another township.

Yes, my cousin who lives in Prior Lake, MN posted photos on Facebook of the last snow and has just reported they have more now. They've "prepared" their place for spring two or three times already, only to have to go back and redrain sprinkler and hose systems, etc. She's mourning spring!

Love the barn red! And it goes really nicely with yellow. I would leave it

I agree with Boston.... if the shed is close to the house, color it the same as the house. If it is set way back (like rural areas have sheds and barns), then leave it red.

If they're close together I don't think I'd enjoy having the shed with that much contrast to the house, but if he wants the effect of a barn, how about leaving it red and painting a big quilt block on it that includes the house colors? It's a very traditional thing to do. However, if you're in an area with covenants, you might want to check that with the HOA first!
