I hate to be critical of any post, but I just tried to read one that I did not understand. I am not sure if they were using abbreviations common to text messaging or if it was simple misspelling. Does anyone else occasionally have this problem?

Most likely it was use of abbreviations. However, I have discovered that sometimes my fingers don't spell as well as they should! Seems like one hand gets ahead of the other...

I usually don't have problems with spelling. It's lack of punctuation that makes some posts difficult for me to figure out. There was a post recently that was a paragraph long but it was all one sentence--no commas, periods, etc. I couldn't tell if she was asking for help or offering an opinion. I agree with mom-6 tho, my fingers go faster than my brain sometimes so who knows what errors my posts have LOL (sorry for the abbreviation!!)

You have to learn to read for context and not word for word sometimes.

I use to be a very good speller, not so much now. I think most people try their best, some may have memory problems or a brain injury. I try to critize as I may end up messing up myself.

There are folks that post from their smart phones too, and the autocorrect will butcher the best of spellings!

Spelling shouldn't be a problem now that there is a spell checker available, but 99.9% of the time you know what the person means anyway, so why criticize??

How do you use the spell checker with this board? I often think of not posting because of my spelling and grammar issues. I have had to leave other sites because of hurtful things said about my grammar / punctuation. As someone mentioned above there may be several reasons why a person has difficulty. I know for some it may be a nails on a chalk board thing to see poor spelling and grammer but seriously I think for the most part people do the best they can.
