It's called Low Dose Naltrexone, and I have been taking it for my RA for 3+ months. I stopped taking my Remicade and Methotrexate in January, and I haven't been back to the Rheumatologist or gone back to any other meds since I started the LDN.
I was taking 800 mg ibuprophen 2x/day for over 4 months for the pain, and the side effects of my RA drugs were just about as bad as the RA itself. 4 days after I started the LDN I woke up pain free.
Can you believe it??? Yes, you can. I am one of you, and there is no reason for me to lie about this.
Look at the website: www.lowdosenaltrexone.org
There are hundreds or thousands of people around the world trying this drug for their auto immune diseases, as well as other diseases. It really helps with pain of any sort.
Miracle of miracles---my Rheumatoid Factor measure is down to 66 from 127. Anyone with RA knows about this measure. All of my inflammation, stiffness, fatigue are gone.
This is a FDA approved drug prescribed in a lower dose than normal. Talk to your primary care physician about it...most of the specialists won't even consider it because it takes money out of their pockets.
I see so many of you on here talking about your illnesses, and yes, I am one of you. I urge you to try it. I now know several people on it, and they are all so happy they tried it, as it has brought them relief from their symptoms.

Any MD can prescribe it, because it is a FDA approved prescription drug, just prescribed at a much lower than normal dosage. Go to the website and read all the information. The optimum dose is 4.5 mg, and some gradually get to that after starting at 1.5 mg. I went right to the 4.5 because my symptoms were so bad I didn't want to mess around.

My doctor refused - he can't get beyond the 'official' use to deal with an off label use. My neurologist was the same and my rheumatologist poo-pooed it. I am looking for a dr in Michigan who has an open mind. My chiropractor and I have not given up.

In my family, the marvelous Flax Seed is a great relief from prescribed medications for blocked bowels, which in some members of my family average out to once every 10 days. And some of the visiting RNs are startled and very, very pleased to find something that is natural and WORKS for this problem. I never knew that the problem was so widespread.

OMG I would love to get off all the drugs I'm on, but what are the side affects of this medicine?? I could talk to my doctor, but I think she would just tell me to talk to my Rhumatologist about it..I am on Remicade, Methotrexate,Prednesone and Folic Acid for my hair...I can't just stop taking them...I'm so happy for you, I will surely check on it...My husband is only working for the insurance for my R.A. Very expensive stuff...

I love hearing about natural and other treatments for illnesses. Being an RN I can tell you that way too many people take way too many pills! Doing a hospital admission can be eye-opening when you get the list of all the drugs people are on.
I applaud all of you for searching for alternatives :D
Please note this is just a general comment. There are certainly reasons to take medications but we need to be pro-active with our health, as you have shown!! :)
