You needed one of those "I'm a beautician not a magician" signs!

Bearisgay,

Magic wand- for the usually new client, who have thin wispy hair, and bring in a picture of a woman with thick haiir in a nice style, who ask "Can you make my hair look like this? "Sure, just let me get my magic wand!" Lol. -(old hair dresser joke)

I am a Cosmetologist, my education was not cheap neither is the continuing education classes, we must take to keep up to date on the latest trends. Most of my clients have been with me for 24 years, and are living on a budget, have no way to get to my shop, so I go and get them also I have a small snack if they have a long appointment. I am a friend, sometimes a stand in daughter, mom to many of my young girl during prom. I will work one more hair cut, perm or color in at the last minute, work for free for those who are having a rough time and even go fix hair when someone dies.We do not have paid vacations, holidays or retirement. Yet we do all this because we love what we do for others. I think 20% tips would be wonderful. A .50 cent tip and a sweet smile is most wonderful sometimes. When given out of gratitude. In saying all this nothing was written to belittle anyone for their thoughts. Just a reminder to think about those who do a service for us.

I so agree--like the clerks at the grocers. Not talking training or education time that involves. My hair is short and it takes about 1/2 hour to do. A wash and a quick cut and blow dry.

My hair dresser is the DIL of a friend. She comes to my house for haircuts... Charges $15 per cut. I give her $25. My last cut and full color (hi lights and low lights) was $70. I do my best to alway tip her well, and make sure she knows how much I appreciate that she will come to me.

Make my house look like a mansion -
Make this old, very worn quilt like new - for free
Make my body look like a competing olympian's body

The good hairdressers in my area will say sorry, booked up for weeks, to the customers that don't tip at least 15%. I
don't blame them one bit.

I think all of the tipping is getting out of hand. I have to tip in a restaurant, my hairdresser, pedicure, paper boy etc.
