Along with everyone else, I have loved reading these stories.

My mother loved telling this story on my brother: she was cleaning out his dresser drawers one day and found wrapped up in a napkin a bunch of bones from salmon (the canned variety). When she asked him why he had them, he told her he was going to plant them and grow more fish for us.

Mine: When I was about 5 we went to Tulsa to visit relatives for Christmas. Being from Houston, we were not familiar with snow and ice. The day we got there a snow storm was predicted for that night. Sure enough it did snow and my brother, sister, and I were so excited the next morning about getting to go outside and play in it. Then my grandmother came through with a big box of salt and announced that she was going to go out and melt the snow and ice. I can remember how upset we kids got; we thought she was going out to melt ALL the snow; she meant she was going to melt it off the front porch, steps, and sidewalk. But we all starting crying and begging her not to until we got dressed and went out to play in it.

Also, I remember watching The Roy Rogers Show on television which was filmed in sepia colors and thinking that everything "out West" was all reddish-brown with no green or other colors!

I remember listening to Alvin & the Chipmunks and thinking how great it was to have singing animals making records. Then my older brother had to ruin it by explaining that it was really 3 guys singing and that the recordings had been speeded up. Thanks big brother for bursting a little kids bubble.

Once when I misbehaved (I think I did that a lot) my mother's husband told me that he would punish me by sticking my face between my ears. It really frightened me. Mom finally pointed out the obvious.....

I was properly convinced that Mom should send the food I didn't eat (because I didn't like it) to those poor starving children in other parts of the world. That was before my Geography lessons.

I personally think that's a lovely concept! And I'm only a child at heart!

My childish brain had a terrible picture of him pushing on a mom's tummy and the baby somehow just popping out of her. Was never sure when I was little how or where, but it sounded just awful to me and certainly not something to be cheerful about!
Mine is similar to that. My Mother had a C-section when she had me & I thought that's how they got all babies out... they took a knife to you. I thought they decided what knife to use depending on how big the baby was. Little did I know that I was not far off --- I had C-sections, too & that's what I kept thinking about as they were going on... "Oh no! I was right!"... LOL!

I also thought that babies were a result of a man & a woman literally sleeping together.

hahahaha. Boy I'm enjoying these stories. grma33 never thought of us american as miracles but I do believe it is a miracle how some have survived as long as they have. My HD says god looks after fools and animals. lol.

As for me, used to believe the boogie man was real and lived in the outhouse at night and if I was on the porch he would surely get me.That was when I lived at grandmas and they lived a holler up in the hill in NC. so it was so dark you couldn't see anything. Also a bad witch lived in the tree outside the bedroom so I would hide under the sheets.

My kids also believed my dad when he gave them some small teeth (shark teeth ) and said they were chicken teeth. They are city boys hummm wonder if they still think that? They have never been around a live chicken before.

I have always loved to sing.... even as a small child. Before I could read.....I clearly remember belting out "bringing in the sheets.... bringing in the sheets....We shall come rejoicing bringing in the sheets." lol

I used to help my mom hang our laundry on the clothes line so this was not so unusual to me. ;-)

I thought there was a little person inside each traffic light to flip a switch to change red to green, and back again.

OMG I thought we were the only people told something like this. My grandad, the doctor, not only "popped" babies but told us a pretty outrageous story similar to yours about belly buttons. Between those two stories I was pretty sure I would never be fool enough to have a baby....I am pretty sure my son is grateful I got over that childhood notion.

One more story. When I was little my sis and I stayed with my grandparents a lot. My aunt and uncle lived next door. One Easter morning I got up to peek out the windows to see if the Easter bunny had come and low and behold there was my aunt STEALING Easter eggs. Boy was I upset. I am not sure how my grandparents handled it but it was years before it finally dawned on me she was hiding not stealing!
