Mistakes happen or things get overlooked. Whenever I have to stay in the hospital with a family member I keep my own chart and write everything down, times, meds, everything. I know when it's time for each med, test and everything else in between.[/quote]

Don't be shy about asking the volunteers for help on anything.
I spent over 28 years there, and there's nothing that I have not done for the patients and family. I've taken (with permission) typing papers from secretaries to the family so they could write down what was happening and what they should do. I've hunted up food for family whom I was sure couldn't afford to eat in the hospital. Trust me, there are ways to do that. And so does my sister, who still volunteers in a Bakersfield hospital. Volunteers are there for YOU and the PATIENT, and don't be shy about asking for help!!

Thank you so much everyone.
This is good advice for everyone. My uncle is a doctor and says the same thing. I myself take charge of his care. When he needs something I get it, when I have a question I ask, and if it is not done or not done right I let them know.
Most of the staff has been great except for a horrible day nurse in the E.R. I just stayed on top of her. I bet she was glad to see us leave and go upstairs. lol
