Kitsie - I just asked dh, who grew up just outside of Niagara Falls, ON & he says he remembers collecting stamps, but he's not sure what kind. He thinks they could have been S&H, but he is really not sure.....

OK - to go along with this S & H stamp post - anyone remember the name of the grocery store you got them at???
and is the store still in business????

I remember "Acme" grocery store (in North Tonawanda,NY) for the green stamps. I think we got Plaid Stamps @ The Great Atlantic & Pacific Co (which then morphed into the A & P). Neither store is in operation today.

I THINK it was National Tea Co in the Chicago area.

Yes, it was National Tea in Chicago. That was my very first job. Originally, they were Del Farm Stores, and then were bought out my National, and then by A&P. I used to love pushing the buttons on the machine for the stamps. I think that was one of the reasons that I got the job in the first place. LOL I worked there from 1970-1976 when they closed.

The detergent was DUZ. Sometimes they put dish towels or dish cloths in the soap. Anyone remember getting dinnerware when you bought gas?? I think Sinclair and Clark Oil gave that away with a fillup!

Yes, I remember also. I still have a full book in the dresser drawer. Never got around to redeeming it. So there it lays and I don't have the heart to just throw it away. LOL

Yup, I collected alot of them when I got engaged and started to fill my "Hope Chest" Remember when every girl had a hope chest? Mine was almost full when I got married, I still use some of the stuff yet. Like my Cutco knives. They never wear out. I also bought my first Singer sewing machine the day I turneds 18 and could make monthly payments and my parents didn't have to sign for me. Still use that machine today and would never part with it.

I do, we got them at the A&P when we grocery shopped. It was my job to lick them and place them into the books-YUCK!
We got things for our family with those stamp filled books.

Yes, I remember my Mom saving S&H Green Stamps. She saved them to buy Christmas gifts for us five kids. We may not have had anything under the tree if not for them. That was in the 1950s.
