You can get a "mint' one on ebay with all the extras for less than that!

wow, they have really gone up in price! When I bought mine I thought that $250 was alot, but that was probably 18 years ago. That one is my daughters now and is still going strong. My 'new' one was something that my MIL bought at a garage sale for about 250 a couple of years back, and casually came over to my camper and said "Is this one of those old machines you keep going on about? maybe I should sell this on ebay" needless to say I paid her cash for it and took it home :-) I ended up with a 1955 with all the attachments plus a buttonholer with extra templates and a case in really good condition, and a machine that looked new.

If it was something special like the free arm one or maybe a pristine white one with everything except the cord?

I understand the nostalgic aspect of owning a Featherweight. But my prize is an old 1946 Singer 201-2, & it was not nearly that high - sews very well, never complains whatever I put under the needle. It weighs a ton, so stays 'put' once placed.
I have a small BabyLock-9 for quilting away from home - works fine, is light weight for trasnport, & was on sale for under $200 a couple years ago at a LQS. Maybe I'd have gotten a Featherweight instead, but was not on the board to hear so much about them at the time I bought the BabyLock. Now I cannot spend the extra, so I choose to be satisfied with what I have.
But I do love to hear the FW stories from all of you.

No, especially since you can't try it out to see if it works. They might even have 'misplaced' the cords so that you couldn't do that. I have a relative who would have used my MIL's FW as a room decoration if she had been given it. SO glad I got it. (And I love using it).

Did you make a lower offer? I would have. You never know when at these sales if the price is "Firm" or what they would like to get for what they have.

I didn't want it. I was just asking if anyone would pay that just for the machine because you couldn't use it unless you were willing to spend more money to find parts for it.
