The year I was expecting our daughter, (I was about three months along) under the tree were 6 boxes. I was really excited. I weighed about 140 at this point. I got:
1. a case of Motor Oil
2. a flashlight for the car
3. a flannel nightgown (size 22)
4. a second flannel nightgown (size 20) he wasn't sure!!
5. a stroller
6. a pretty pink necklace.

One out of 6 isn't bad??

My worst gift was when I was fourteen. I had one of those evil stepmothers (you know the kind...think mommy dearest). She was # 2 of 3. She did all the gift shopping, because my father was clueless most of the time as to what day it was, among other things. She bought me an old beat up guitar that was playable, but not my idea of a good gift for a kid who is tone deaf! Same year, she bought my little brother a red velvet dress his size! No, he is not gay. I do have to say that this was the only year she bought gifts. After that she and her buddy would go to the garbage dump (yes really!) to find stuff for us. I laugh now, but as a kid I thought there was something wrong with me. This year I sent her a gift card she could load herself. (I am a brat.) :)

For Mother's Day one year, DH bought me one of those Kitchen Aid stand mixers. It's about 15 yrs old now and is used approximately 5 times per year. Not a horrible gift but I did and do wonder what his thinking was. Now, it is a great mixer, especially when we make his mom's Christmas cookie recipe. My MIL one year gave my older DD a headless Barbie b/c it came with a cute outfit. Gotta love her b/c she gave birth to my DH who's a keeper. FYI: I usually buy my gifts from him and wrap them like they're from him. He gets mad but he always buys me the prefect fabric or thread or what have you sewing gizmo!!!!

I got an ironing board cover from my husband. He was so proud of himself for noticing that the existing one was old and stained.

My first husband once bought me an electric plug. That was in the days when appliances came with a cord but no plug on the end. As he didn't give me anything else, what on earth was the plug for?

Needless to say he was not a keeper and the second one is an absolute darling and buys really wonderful presents.

Let's face it. Some people are bad gift givers.

yeah, I have gotten that several times, and it stings worse when you have searched high and low, and bought them an expensive gift (which they have and still use frequently), and not even a thank you.
Before we were married my ex bought me little gifts all the time but after we got married the gift giving ended until the year his nephew was here for Christmas. It came up in conversation that I never got gifts from his uncle and I guess he talked to him about it. Must have made him feel bad becasue he went shopping that year. He bought this humungous wooden salad bowl on a stand with salad forks that are 2 ft long. We didn't entertain and with just the family for dinner it was waaaaaaaaaaaay to big. I used it once for my caesar salad when everyone was over and it maybe filled a quarter of it! After that it sat in a corner of my closet and has become a depository for all kinds of junk. In the years after that Christmas I never got another gift from him until he left and that was the best gift he could have given me.

When I was 14 I wanted a record player of my own so badly that was all I talked about for Christmas. There under the tree was a case, the kind the old record players came in and I was so excited. I ran right to it and was so disapointed when I opened the case up and found a typewriter. My other gift that year was a box of records to teach me how to type!

Boy, this thread has sure brought back memories of Christmases past. Merry Christmas to all and may this be the year where there are no bad gifts.

Sorry, but I already have at least one bad gift from my in-laws this year - yet another pair of pierced earrings for my non-pierced ears

How hard is it to see that I do not have any piercings?
