I do have a local friend that does LAS but I really want to try this myself. So can I quilt what i know I want and then add more later if needed? Can I stencil more design after my quilt is together or do I need to have it all stenciled before I begin?

Remember this is your quilt and you can do whatever stitches wherever you want on your quilt. We have no Quilt Police on this QB. We love to see the quilting ideas of everyone. Who know you may show us all some new ideas to use on our quilts. You certainly have blown us away with your quilting ability so far. Don't ever feel shy about asking questions this is how we all learned. When classes offer sbjects that peak you interest, take them, you'll be surprised what ideas you may come away with to incorporate in your next creation. Don't feel bashful to use ideas from one quilt pattern and combine them with another pattern. There are many sites for tutorials right here on the QB that are free for you to use. Welcome again.

You quilt is beautiful. What a large project to start off with. No sure what to put on the small squares. You will get a lot of help here. Welcome from the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

I would do what feline fanatic said. That would be really nice, and give you what you want and need. I am a hand quilter too, and I this this idea would serve your purpose.
It is a beautiful quilt, well done!

Congratulations on making your first quilt a very beautiful one. Welcome from Lowell, MA. I've done a few double irish chains, and I like the idea of a heart in the open block. I think I would just quilt a diagonal line through the smaller squares, just in one direction, or you could do an "X", but one will do nicely, Just my opinion. Welcome aboard.

Great job!! I love Irish Chain pattern. I'd quilt diagonal through the 'chain' and the hearts in the white plain blocks. For the border, the laurel leaf (or pumpkin seed), could be on the green…Just some ideas!
The most important: enjoy the quilting time!
Welcome!
