For hand quilting I use the metal thimbles with the ridge on the top (slip proof?) and on my underneath finger usually use either those peel off plastic thingys or masking tape.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada.
I like the thimble that has a little edge around the top so that the needle is less likely to slip as you are quilting. There probably is a name for it.

First welcome to the QB. I have 2 thimbles that I keep going back to. I've bought almost every one on the market EXCEPT those high dollar ones because I don't hand quilt all that much. I'm on my 3rd quilt that I'm hand quilting. I recommended the yellow one to my girlfriend & she loves it. It runs about $8 then the other one sticks to what ever finger you use & i love it too.

Welcome from central FL. I use 2 types of thimbles; a metal one on my right hand and a plastic one that is adjustable for long nails on the hand that is underneath. I usually end up taking off the thimble on the left hand because no matter what finger I put the thimble on, I use another finger so I can feel the needle. I hope you enjoy this board as much as I do.
