Here the hummingbirds usually come back around April 15th (last year it was the 20th) so I put the food out today to be ready for them. Love to watch them. We use to go thru almost 2 quarts a day but for the last few years we don't have so many. I guess there's more people feeding them.

We saw our first one on March 24, near Warrior, Alabama. I have only 4 feeders and have to keep them fill really often but really don't havve time for more.

How exciting! - and a reminder that I will have to get busy and put out a batch of food for them myself

They don't usually show up until May here, but I've gotten my feeders gathered up.

How exciting for all of you birders. My folks have a feeder for the hummingbirds now that dad has finally eliminated the plant that was taking over his yard that they loved (can't recall the name of it! ugh!). They get a few, but I haven't seen them myself -- yet.

For those of you who really love hummers, try this link for some fantastic photos: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/933203

(I keep it so that some day ... when I get really crazy ... I can design a quilt with an image like one of these ...... ahhhh, the daydreams of quilters!)

That is so cool. I too watch and wait not for humming birds but for swallows (humming birds are here year round)

I have two one in the front of the house and one in the back of the house. We are in their migration path and they stop here in the Hill Country of Texas every year. They send out a scout to find food and if Iam outside on the back porch when he arrives, they buzz around my head to say where's the food. My two feeders look like an airport terminal with they coming and going.

Reminds me of a dear friend in Michigan who SWEARS that the first humming bird of the season shows up at her house on the same date every year, and always within 1/2 hour of the same time. Not sure I'm buying that, but she refuses to do anything or go anywhere on that particular date.
