Help... Been quilting for a year, finished 3, started 30.... :shock: :mrgreen:

Good: I love all the stuff I've been making so far and the exploration that comes with each one.

Bad: I'm running out of storage space in my home...

Ugly: Can't open a cupboard without a project tumbling into my arms. It's seriously interfering with my concentration, not to mention with my flow of ideas to start even more new ones.... :lol: :cry:

Help...

So I donated a bunch of blocks to my quilting guild for a charity sew-in. It was a relief, but most of my projects are and will remain MINE!!!! :evil:

Now I've decided to finish 3 before I start even one more. If this feel good, then I may decide finish another 3 before I start another one. And so on, until I can breathe again. Someday.... Grumble.

Help...
(No thank you, I'm not giving them away. :-P But I'd love support, suggestions, stories about your project stack, pile or mountain... And thanks for reading. I feel a bit better already.)

Sounds like you have a plan now stick to it! I generally have 2 or 3 projects going on at the same time sometimes more. I have to make myself finish them before moving on to a new one.

When I reorganized my sewing area (for the last time I hope), I put all my projects and 'collections' together. They're neatly labeled in see through plastic totes and shoe boxes. All my other fabrics went together by group (squares, strips, FQ, etc.).

When I placed the containers on the shelving units I put the projects and collections FIRST AS I WALK PAST THEM and then the fabrics. If you don't have shelving, try putting the UFOs 'right in front of your face' and put your fabric in a harder to access place (even if you have to just cover it with a blanket).

Then concentrate on finishing them one by one according to the ones closest to being finished. You'll enjoy the accomplishment and will move quickly through the rest of them. (This is what I'm doing and hope to accomplish this coming winter)

Kinda like paying off your smallest bills (so you don't have to worry about them) and then tackling the big one with gusto! It's the feeling that you're actually accomplishing something that makes you want to continue quickly!

hi,watched "hoarders" last night,& waS THINKING HOW GREAT IT WOULD BE TO HAVE A proffessional come in to organize everything! the only problem is, the last time [mo.or so ago]i still can't find everything,& I"M the one who did it !!

Sure can relate to this...have 3 laundry baskets full of TOPS waiting to be quilted...can't afford to pay someone else to quilt them, so here and there I do finish one...then I have shelves full of projects in different stages of production...tote bags full of fabric and patterns for future projects...and a million ideas in my head...just need to find more time to quilt and be more motivated when I do have the time.

Can't be much help, but I know how you feel. I could get more done if I could stay off this site a little more. But I do get motivation from here. Here's hoping we both get some projects done.

I can relate too. Makes me wonder if ADD is an inherent trait of quilters :D. I thought I had 7 projects in progress -- or actually, stalled out -- anyway, projects that weren't finished. Then I had to move all my sewing stuff to another room when my son moved back home. I discovered it was more like 17 unfinished projects! Most of my sewing stuff stayed packed up for about a year, but when I got the bug to sew again, I told myself I had to work on projects that I had already begun rather than starting new ones. So far I've managed to complete one quilt top, but hey, that's still progress, and it made me feel good. I have allowed myself to do some mindless sewing of scrap squares to fulfill my "15 minute a day" commitment to quilting. Good luck to you.

I have a ton of incomplete quilting projects, assorted crafting projects....boy, can I relate!!!

Some LQS have UFO night and you go and finish up something that's been haning around. Most even provide assistance if something has you stuck. You could also invite a quilting friend over. Even if all they do is keep you company, clip threads or press seams the time goes so much quicker. Another day you can go and help them with theirs. I'd volunteer but it's a heck of a drive!

I don't know about a ton but I do have a few unfinished projects it brings to mind the song, IF I only had time.
I would love to spend a few days just doing what I want to do with no one interupting my. if it's not mum its DH if it's not DH it's litter trays or the washing or general housework, just were oh were does all the time go, Not to mention all the time spent reading QB
