Just want to say: Not all Pfaffs made since 1990's are junk. That's not even sensible. They would be out of business if that were so.

The Paff I bought 2 years ago is a wonderful machine with not one bit of problem.

I know nothing about Janome except that I read about problems with them on this board also. So should I say that all Janomes are junk? Don't think so.

I have an older Pfaff, and a new one and two Janomes, one older, one new. I have had no problem with any of them. I use them for different purposes plus have reliable machines when my daughters come to sew.

Another thing to think about - you have a warranty with your Janome and there would be none with the Pfaff. If something was wrong or went wrong with the Pfaff you would spend more than that $1,000 in repair bills.

I switched from an old Pfaff to new Janomes. I did not like the new Pfaffs. Hopefully you will find the same. As for the thread cutter, once you are used to it, you will not want to do without it especially is you do the actually quilting on the Janome.

As I said in my message, it is MY OPINION. I have been stung real bad by Pfaff in the last 5 years. Glad to hear you love yours, to each his own. She asked OPINIONS on which machine we liked better, Janome or Pfaff, and I gave my OPINION. ????

Exactly. Buying from a reputable dealer with a warranty vs. an unknown Craigs List seller???

You don't realize how nice the thread cutter is until your machine is in for service & you have to use your old one, which has noo thread cutter or auto threading. Those 2 things are worth their weight in gold.

Does your Janome have the built in walking foot? I was looking at a 3.0 one time. A person who worked in the store caught my eye and shook their head "No". I walked away.

I agree. That walking foot on my 1995 made in Germany Pfaff is worth it's weight in gold. It's my go to machine when I want to SID. There's absolutely no slipping with the automatic walking foot. It's by far the best feature on the machine.

Main differences is that the Janome has an 11" throat, the Pfaff has a 10" throat. The Janome has a thread cutter, the Pfaff does not (not such a dealbreaker, and certainly not a feature worth the $1000 savings). The Pfaff comes with all of the feet, she bought it new about 1 1/2 years ago, still has the box. I no longer have the box for the Janome as I thought I would have this machine for years and years and seriously hate keeping boxes.

My question to you is how comparable (from your experience) are these two machines? Do you prefer one over the other and if so, why?
You got a great deal and that is a wonderful machine. The 8200 arounf here is a lot more than that. Janome makes a wonderful machine. I had a MC9000 for years and now have a Elna 740, which is the samwe as the Janome . I love mine and would not take for it. Enjoy your machine and smile about your good deal.
