I also have a Fisker rotary cutter, with mine every time I went to cut the blade retracted, I sent Fishers a email but have NEVER had a reply I would not recommend this rotary cutter, because of the lack of back up of their product

I had a Fiskar rotary cutter from about 15 years ago, it finally wore out last year, it started doing the same thing as yours (blade retracting when i pressed down to cut), so i got a new one like the one in the donna13350's picture. I used the new one for a few months, and the same thing started happening with my new one, (retracting while pressing down). So, bought a brand new one, again, used it to help cut fabric for the sewing group one afternoon, after about an hour of cutting, it started doing the SAME thing, (retracting while pressing down). Is it just me, or has Fiskar's cutter gone down hill? It is the 45mm cutter.
I am thinking of switching to Olfa for my next new one. One of the ladies in the group has Olfa, and she is really happy with it.
It is almost like the little piece that is supposed to hold the blade out is too small, or made of soft plastic and it wears out fast, or something. I can't open it up to see, because the handle is one piece.
Maddening!

fiskars has great customer service. my first cutter is about 20 years old and it quit staying open. I could only use it if I held the "opener" down. I wrote to fiskars and they asked for a picture. About 10 days later they sent me a new one in the mail. that was awesome.

Thank you all for the help..I will e-mail Fiskars...I don't even mind paying for the washer..I just had a feeling it wasn't right...
kamaiarigby...I am sorry that you had a bad experience with Fiskars..but I have to say, first that I love my rotary cutter!....but secondly...it seems that everyone else on the board has had a positive experience with them...so maybe you can cut then a little slack? With the hundreds of e-mails they must get daily, I wouldn't be surprised if one slipped through the cracks...sorry it was yours..but just judging from the positive experiences others have reported..I'd give them a second chance! Try e-mailing them again, and see what happens.
I have tried other rotary cutters, and I am quite loyal to my Fiskars!!!
My niece works in a HUGE quilt shop in Colorado, and she tells me that rotary cutters perform differently with different brands of mats...who knew? She says some brands can play nice together, and some are just horrible when brands are mixed and matched! I didn't pay too much attention because I have my well loved Fiskars cutters, and my Olfa mat..and didn't see myself changing brands...but something to keep in the back of your mind when buying a new rotary cutter.

Fiskars have answered every email I have sent to them. I was sent free of charge a replacement part on an item that isn't sold anymore, the CS person went out of her way to find it for me. It is very possible the one email you sent was never delivered due to server or ISP glitch.

That was my favorite rotary cutter. I stupidly donated it years ago thinking I needed something bigger and better (Dritz) when I was on hiatus from quilting and was scrapbooking. Note to self: Buy another one!!
