My LQS is great. The owner makes it a point to call you by name. She even sets up a special night (beyond regular store hours) during the holidays for husbands (or wives) to come in a shop. You fill out a wish list and she helps them figure it out. I think she feeds them too. Her staff is so nice too. If you are ever in Colorado, check out Creative Cloth Closet in Canon City.

We have a wonderful shop in Ames, Ia. The Quilting Connection. The owner and all of her employees are so warm and friendly. They call you by name when you walk in the door. I was there a few weeks ago and there was a new employee. The owner introduced me to the new employee and told her a little bit about me. She said Helen does a lot of applique. They have wonderful fabrics and it is a joy to go to that store.

Both of my LQSs are small enough to have the owners on the floor. All the staff is great. The one downdown is owned by a married couple. He has Janome on the brain and doesn't know why anyone would sew on an Elna, but I can forgive him for that as long as he's willing to give her a cleaning every few years.

My favorite LQS will be featured in the Spring 2011 issue of Quilt Sampler!! I have no complaints at all about any quilt shop that I have ever done business with...and that's a LOT of them! :D

In this economy, you better have a good staff or you will lose business. With the costs going up, I want very good customer service. I don't care if you have every bolt of wonderful fabric, if the staff isn't friendly, you will lose sales.

Maybe we should send out "secret shoppers" to these local quilt shops and post reviews. I would say you have to visit twice in order to be fair. Then let the store know we will be posting our results on this board. Give them a copy of what we liked and didn't like. Tell the stores somebody will be back in a month to see if things changed and then the review will change.

Think it would work?! LOL
Like your idea...if I am treated badly more than once, after the 2nd time, I don't go back...if the staff is unfriendly, they shouldn't be there, period...I would probably let management know...

:-(

I think this is a good idea and it should apply to all stores that sell fabric. There are times I wonder how some places stay in business other than they have a monopoly for the area. I so appreciate friendly, helpful service.

definitely not.

it is never appropriate to use this board to smear a specific business by name.

-the quality of customer service is in the eye of the beholder. what makes you angry may please, or at least not bother, somebody else.
-you'll only post your side of the story. a representative of the business in question will never get to tell theirs. that is not at all fair.
-some customers are simply impossible to please unless you roll out a red carpet, sprinkle it with rose petals, carry them around in a golden chair, give them everything for 95% off, and bow 'til your nose touches the floor as they leave. :hunf:

***NOTE: the prounoun "you" is used generically and does not refer to any specific person/member.***

I will have to say there is a quilt shop here in WV( Hurricane) called "Quilts by Phyllis". I live about 35 min. away ,but I go there when I can. Everyone is so helpful and is sooo friendly. They seem as excited about your new project as you do. I love that place!

I don't think it's our place to "round up the villagers and put people out of business" which is in effect what you're doing when you post bad reviews and give the store's name on this board.

Trust me, if their service is bad enough they'll put themselves out of business.
