    Been doing that for years. Sure clears out t he stash of partially used thread spools.

    I am using up all my older threads to piece my quilts. Will be good to clean up all those spools that I don't really need. Good idea about the bobbins - will have to see if my older bobbins will fit the new machine.

    I do this as well. Scrappy quilts also help me to use up some of the small spools of thread filling up the drawer.

    When hemming quilts my church donates to charity, which are real "scrappy" I would not only empty bobbins, but use up those half spools of thread of questionable color.
