    Default another sewing machine question

I think I will need to replace my old - very old - Pfaff soon. I am considering a Pfaff quilt expression 4.0. My local dealer says it will cost around $2500. My question: is this a fair price? I can't seem to find much about pricing on this machine.

My other possibility is one of the Pfaff ambition series but even the top of the line does not have all the features I want - specifically the automatic foot lift.

Anyone have this machine (the quilt expression), do you like it, and what is a reasonable price? Thanks.

Check out reviews at http://www.patternreview.com . (If you join, which is free, you can read old reviews as well as the newest ones.) I just did a search there on Pfaff and found this recent review, which gives an approximate price of $1900:

Edit: I see her purchase price was without the extended table.

Also check out eBay completed listings:

eBay is always going to be less than a local dealer (no lessons, etc.). The going price on eBay seems to be around $1850 including shipping.

I do not know about the price, sorry! It is probably a machine that you have to buy through dealer as it is more upper end. If it has everything you want it will be with you many years so it will probably be worth every penny to you. Some one who has this machine will probably be able to give you more advice. Good luck with what you choose and enjoy!

I have the Pfaff QE4 and love it. Any problems I have had have been user issues (it's a bit more complicated than my more than 20 year old Pfaff 1473). I have been using mine for about a year now.

Ginaky - what a coincidence! The Pfaff I need to replace is also a 1473 and it has been a terrific machine. Sold me completely on Pfaff (I also have a newer Bernina that I don't like as well). And I am glad to hear that you and others like the machine; I read some very negative reviews and then realized they were written several years ago; more recent purchasers give it a better review. Perhaps Pfaff corrected some of the problems. I am still debating but leaning more and more toward the QE4. Thanks everyone.

I also have a Pfaff 1473 I recently replaced with a Janome 6600, but I truly miss using my Pfaff. I purchase a Pfaff the "Smarter by Pfaff" I had to return it, because it would not let me sew, the message would pop up that the bobbin was empty...which it was not...My Janome is ok, but I am thinking of going back to look at the Pfaffs.

I think prices of machines can vary geographically it would be best to check several dealers in your area and see what they go for in your area. I would go to the dealer try it out, and maybe try other brands or models that do have the features you are looking for, it is a big investment so you want to be happy with your choice

My quilting buddy just bought a Pfaff expression 4.0 and she loves it. We sew on Sunday after noons and text each other while we are working. I have recieved the message "I love my Pfaff" more than pnce! She paid what your dealer is asking. She says it is worth every penny. I also have 2 Pfaff machines. I love them both.

I also have a Pfaff 1473 bought new in 1986 and am still sewing on it all the time. I am afraid something will go wrong with it and I'll have to quit sewing on it. I will probably buy another Pfaff when I need to replace it.

I have a Pfaff 4.0 Quilt Expression. I love the machine. I have had no problems with it and have had it over a year now. You should check to see if they have any floor samples to sell, that can save you at least a couple of hundred.
