Anyone else bored with Quilt Magazines
#191
There is a lot available on line now and itis new all the time. There are several quilting blogs that I follow and there is so much more there that I find interesting. There are tutorials about almost anything you might want to know. I have noticed that sometimes the magazines tell you to look on line for more instructions. I let most my subscriptions expire and I only get BH&G Patchwork and Quilting and I am not sure I will continue to get it after this year.

They are all just one big advertisement. And I agree that they are all the same stuff..not much excitement. I do love the European ones but at $14+ each...I'd rather buy fabric and use my own imagination.

I am with all of you. I am slowly letting them run out. I just got my McCalls today and enjoyed thumbing through it. I like one quilt and may make it. But really not worth the prices of the subscriptions any more. Especially with all the free things on here.

I'm also letting my subscriptions lapse. Once they are done I will look at the books at the store and if I like something I will buy it. This will save me money and the frustration of not enjoying the magazines anymore. There are so many quilts online and at the library so who needs magazines?

I have fallen in love with Quilter's Home MAgazine. It isn't your typcal quilting mag. Rather, it's more about quilty things in our lives. It's meant to be read. They do have 3 quilty items in there, but the patterns/templates are on the website, so they don't take up valuable printed pages.
At least one of the editors lurks here. That's how she found out about my inmate quilting program that is being featured in the current issue!
This issue of McCall's has a nifty item that I thought I'd make - a quilted shawl. It's about 72" x 22" with a pocket at each end. Thinking about having it to wear in church in the summer as it is so cold in there!
I stopped getting most magazines as they seem to do nothing more than promote fabric lines & let's face it, you usually need to blend a fabric line with other fabrics. There usually isn't enough contrast in value or pattern size variation. IMHO 8-)

I think I am getting bored also. There are some magazines that are just showing the same old designs but showcasing a manufacturer's new lines. Wish there was a better way for us to see new lines in magazines without several pages taken up with a quilt I don't want to make. Guess I will go to their individual web sites now and then to see the fabrics. I will never get all the quilts designs done, fabric used and kits completed in my lifetime anyway. What do I need more stuff for??
