I saw a really narrow shirred inner border on a small quilt, and it was so stunning!!! Anyone know how to do it? I didn't want to ask the person, because she had the quilt for sale.

I did one on a baby quilt for my grandson. It's easy... Just cut your border about one and a half times as long as the quilt and then gather up both edges of the border before sewing it on. I made a double line of basting on each edge and then pulled both threads to gather it. Before gathering, mark the half way point, quarter and three quarters so you can pin it to the quilt and then gather equally and pin, then sew. Also, be sure to use a strong thread to gather with so it doesn't break while you are gathering it. If that's not clear, feel free to PM me with any questions.

Some machines have attachments that will ruffle or shirr. Another way, more labor intensive, is to zig-zag over a thread, not touching it. You pull the center thread and adjust the gathers. It takes a while to get them even, aspecially if you are doing both sides for a shirred effect.

Thanks so much!!! I have been wanting to try it and didn't have a clue how. I Googled it, but only came up with one explanation that really didn't make sense to me. You're very clear!!
