Sharon, the 2nd stitch will work just fine, but if you want it to be a larger look, just make your stitch width bigger.Carol

The needle size is fine - if you go smaller, your thread weight needs be change too. Heat and Bond could be a little unyielding - but with raw edge applique it will hold the fibers together well.

I <heart> raw edge applique

that looks like my smaller blanket stitch and the needle goes forward and backward and then over. makes holes.

Did you wash the first one with the larger holes yet to see if they 'disappear'? May be all that's needed.

Sharon, I personally like the 1st one. Your stitching is beautiful. But if the holes bug you, try a size 9 needle.

I use a 12 and this blanket stitch when I do mine. The holes don't bother me and yes, they probably will close up a little after washed.

If the needle a universal needle, you might try an embroidery needle. If you are using an embroidery needle, I would try a different one, maybe the one you picked out is defective.

If you are sewing with poly or poly cotton, try 100% cotton.

You could also change to a smaller needle and 60 wt 3ply or 2 ply thread.

I haven't tried washing it yet ... was going to wait until I had the red stitching done and wash it and see what happens , but the other 11 have the smaller , unseen stitching . I was worried it wouldn't close up and I need these done for next week

I get the holes, too, but they disappear after washing, and besides, who puts their face that close to the stitching to see the holes??? :-)
