It used to be the only way quilters finished their quilts in our area when I first learned to quilt. It's quick and easy, but I do like the use of a complementary fabric as the binding most of the time.

I use backing material as binding often. I either cut my 2.5 inch binding strips first, or after I've done the quilting and have trimmed everything in preparation for binding. I then just cut the binding strips from the backing material left over.

I've never done it buy after viewing both tuts I think I am going to give it a go. Apparently it is in some books. Since most of the older quilters did this I don't understand why it is frowned upon. It should be be as acceptable as the seperate binding. I have always heard it is your creation so do it the way you want to do it. Divesity makes life interesting.

I like this tutorial!!! Thanks!
Thats how i do it. I only use this on "everyday quilts" though. I use a regular binding on nice quilts.
