Personally I love my three Janome machines.....9 inches to the right of the needle and 5 inch tall harp space. I'm sure there are others out there larger, but for the quilts I do these are work horses. Any size but a king works on these machines.

I upgraded to a 9" x 6" harp space and it seemed to make a huge difference in my FMQ. It is only 3" more than normal in the space to the right of the needle but made a big difference.

I love my Juki and highly recommend it, however, OnebyOne makes an excellent point about the table. No DSM will be satisfactory without an adequate table.

another vote for Juki here! I've had a 2010 for two years now and I love it!! The newer version is pretty much the same but you get purple and a couple more feet. I also looked long and hard at the Janome 1600P, it looks like a really nice machine and I've had great luck with Janomes. I don't think you can drop the feed dogs with the Janome straight stitcher but I do my FMQ with my dogs up and my stitch length set at zero so it wouldn't matter to me. My Juki 2010 I could get locally for a really good price so I went with that and no regrets!

The Babylock Jane is similar to the Juki & they are on sale now. You may want to compare and price them.

Someone recently recommended Baby Lock Jaz to me. I have not been able to look at it or test but the harp space is about 11 inches maybe more. Have not really done much research but was informed it does have some decorative stitches and price point about the same as 2010q . Good luck in your search
