Default Blades seem to dull so quickly. Why?

I bought many new rotary blades on ebay years ago--still using them up. When I put a new one in, it cuts like a hot knife through butter, but within 5-10 cuts, it feels dull already. Am I missing something? Could it be my mat? It's several years old, but still fine. I want more butter cutting!

go to www.olfadeals.com and read their tips on rotary cutting. They may have the answer.

if the mat is old, that is the cause sometimes.

I have the same problem. I switched brands and have been very happy!

If there is a sale I prefer Martelli blades... otherwise I use Olfa.

As above a good mat is vital to good quilting.

Can I ask which brand has made you very happy?

I use an old mat with a not so old mat on top. The extra "cushion" allows the blade to sink thru the fabric a little better and cut well for longer.

I usually buy Olfa blades, which I’ve been very happy with, but I’ll have to give Martelli blades a try.
