I have never broken a needle . I just make sure the needle is not down in the fabric. Because the needle moves when the machine turns on. You have to move the needle to position 1 to center it when you turn the machine on to center it.

Is there a trick on the CS6000i for bringing the bobbin thread up to the top of the fabric when starting to sew? I can seem to get the bobbin thread to come up, I prefer to have both top and bobbin thread on the top when sewing.

Thanks.
There is a way to change this to center. I did it on my Brother XR 9000. I love this machine for piecing!

1. Turn off the sewing machine
2. Hold down the "+" side of the stitch selection key on the left and turn on the sewing machine

The initial needle position changes to the center needle position.

Hope that works on your Brother!
I will have to try it - it is the only thing that annoys me with this machine.

I have a Janome 9000, Brother Pacesettre ULT2003D theses are too heavey for me to take to class. Last winter I purchased a light weight Brother from WalMart and really like it. It is so light weight you don't know it's in the case. Stitch quality is great, walking foot is easier to put on that the other 2 machines. I really like it. Hope all enjoy the machines they have.

I have one and love the fact that the needle inserts your thread thru and the options of stitch size as well as the zigzag selections...don't have the walking foot and never quilted with it but have really enjoyed using it & also lightweight to carry.

I e-mailed Brother and called if I am setting the machine wrong; no clear solution...Just got to remember to set the needle to the correct position before starting sewing. Aside from this, I am happy with the machine.
I am new to quilting, I already made lap and Baby blankets using this machine.
I have one and it's worked fine for me as a travelling machine. That needle going to the left is a problem--I have a little note on the machine to remind me to move it when I turn it on. The walking foot works great, and all the feet are exchangeable with my Brother Innovis which is my main machine.

This machine is on sale for $99 at Amazon.com

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B000JQM1DE

By the way, I have a Brother Innovis 4000D (which is a much more expensive machine than this one) and have the same problem with the needle defaulting to the left. Can't tell you how many needles I've broken.

EDITED: Forget the $99 at Amazon. The shipping is atrocious! ($94).

You can change this on the Innovis 4000D. You are going to love me! Turn on your machine and touch the lowest left corner button that looks like a page. Make sure you are now on the Sewing tab. The lowest selection is the needle position--you can change it to the center position. I wish I could do it also on the CS6000i.
Let me know if it works for you.
