    Default Bucket List Question

We've all seen beautiful quilts that we want to make someday, so we add it to our bucket list. My question is, do we really have an actual bucket list? Is there a actual list in a notebook or computer where we write the names of these quilts? Do we own the pattern already and pile all the patterns together and say "someday"? How do we actually pick which pattern to make next? Does the pattern "speak" to us? My personal bucket list reaches to the next country gravel road and back again. So for now while I'm working on my Dresden Plate quilt, I've put the really must do patterns in a tall wicker basket and the first pattern facing me, gets done next and then I'll put it away or sell it. How do you manage your bucket list??

I have a bucket, but not a list. Mine is a directory on my computer with saved pictures and files. Sometimes I browse through and select what catches my eye. And if I've saved something and it never catches my eye when I'm reviewing, that is fine.

Quilts I really, really want to make I “kit”. I put the fabrics I will use and the pattern in large plastic, zippered bags. They are ready to go when I am. I also save patterns in3 ring binders. From time to time I go through them and see if I still want to make them. If not, out they go!

I have a pattern file for ideas if I lose my sewjo. In that pattern file I just have one on my bucket list which is Labyrinth Walk.

I have a list in a notebook of quilts I would like to make; this includes the pattern name and what magazine, year and month. Fabric for those are not yet chosen. I also have on my bulletin board a list of quilts that are ready (pattern and fabric are bought or a kit, maybe from my stash) when I'm ready to start them. Either way I always have something to work on or dream of starting.

I don't have a bucket list. I have a working list of quilts I'm planning to make with fabric already on hand, and as I work on those, a more hazy idea is forming, of the kinds of quilts I'd like to focus on in the future. I collect a lot of photos of quilts and patterns that interest me, and weed those out from time to time as my interests and tastes change.

My order of quilts to work on is not firm. I'll pick a bunch of five or so and will sometimes change the order within that group. I'll usually review the patterns and fabrics of upcoming quilts several times, so by the time a quilt's turn comes around, I'm very familiar with the pattern, and the anticipation of starting on it is a big part of the fun.

I write down in a note book names of patterns that I see tutorials on and think I would like to make them. I doubt that I will get all of them made but I like to dream!

The term bucket list implies that I really want to do them before I die. I guess I don't really think in those terms. I consider it SABLE (Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy). I do keep a document on my computer which has a list of my UFOs, WIPs, PIGS, and Brain Bunnies. My PIGS are stored in large plastic drawers under my sewing table extension … four main drawers (1 drawer with PIGS for each of my DDs and her family; 1 drawer for PIGS for me; and 1 drawer for miscellaneous PIGS that could be for girlfriend gifts or donations or whatever). I also have a document on the computer listing the contents of each drawer. I keep my UFOs in plastic boxes with all the blocks I've made, fabric, pattern, etc. I'm pretty well organized that way, just need more time as all of us understand.

So this serves as a reminder to me to check those computer lists to see if they are updated.

I do like luvstoquilt, kind of. I have the assortment of fabric stashed together. Sometimes with a pattern, but sometimes just an idea of what I want to do with said fabric. Because I "stash" buy, most of my fabrics are in 2 yard increments so ample to do just about any pattern that strikes my fancy. Some of my "kits" have had numerous pattern changes before getting cut into and some I have "cannablized" because I had another project that I knew the fabric I had kitted aside would be just perfect. But for the most part I am good about committing the fabric to a project, I just don't always know what the project will be.
I also work the other way around, find a pattern I really like, shop my stash with maybe a few more fabrics added and away I go. There are certain patterns I definitely want to make like a Swoon quilt, Pineapple and feathered star. There are also patterns I will revisit, like Mariner's compass and another offset log cabin. Some quilts I see I think to myself "Oh I am definitely making that" then a year down the road they are forgotten. And I know I have "kits" with pattern in my bins that may or may not get made or evolve into something else. Some do see fruition. I am currently working on one of my "kits" I set aside at least 4 years ago. And am sticking with the pattern I picked out for it and didn't use any of the fabrics out of the kit, but will surely have leftovers when I am done.

DJ This is the first that I have heard of PIGS (except for the barnyard kind) I also don't know the Brain Bunnies. Please enlighten me.

Even tho I have only been quilting about two years I have a three ring binder with a list of 13 quilts. I created this quite early on as I started getting swamped with all the fabric and needed to keep things organized. I have the patterns and fabric for 11 of them. Only two are finished. Seven of them are all or mostly cut out already. Several have been sewed on. One I ran out of fabric as I couldn't find the right colour; One I got bored of sewing black and white squares; One was set aside as another became more important; One I couldn't find a backing for. Two are really close to being finished and I would like them done as I need them to actually use. They are the next ones up, but I have been distracted making dolly quilts for a donation. All of these I consider WIP not UFO's. I also have a list and am gathering fabric for some that I aspire to like a couple of wall hangings, a Lucy Boston and a Grandmothers Flower Garden
