Hi everyone, I have a couple of questions. How much fabric do you need for the sashings ? My apologies if this has been answered.
Also is muslin a good option for sashings or would cotton be better?

i think muslin would be fine, i've seen DJ quilts where muslin was used for background, sashing, and scallops and they were very beautiful.

this is from the software regarding sashing, etc.

Background Fabric, Sashing and Outside Border
If your background fabric, sashing and outside border will be the same fabric, you will need the following yardage

    Stingy: 9 yards 10"
    Normal: 14 yards 10"
    Paper-piecer: 19 yards

"Stingy" is based on the 6" square that lore says is enough for a block, and an 8" square for a triangle. "Normal" is based on an 8" square for each block, and a 10" square for triangles.
"Paper-Piecer" is based on a 10" square for both blocks and triangles. In both cases, I have added 10 % shrinkage.

    Sashing and Scallops Only
For the way the quilt was made originally, ie ½" wide (finished size) sashing between all blocks, and ¼" wide (finished size) around all the blocks, you will need 1 yard 10".

To that, you will need to add the fabric you may or may not need for the outside border / scallops. My guesstimate (based on a 4" wide outside border, that may or may not end up as scallops, is that an additional yard (if same fabric as your background fabric) will get you there.

ordered my software today too. pretty sure I already have the tools necessary. Can't wait to get it. Going to do the sashing in unbleached muslin too. Would like it to be as close to "original" as I'd like.

Can't wait to start! (Will be start A-1 and go through all the As, then on to the B's?)

i'm not going to set up the schedule in row and number order.

i'm trying to map it out that we'll have easy month and more challenging months based on the time of year. winter more challenging and summer easy - that way people can enjoy vacation/family time.

i'll also put in one triangle a week that way they aren't saved for the end.

i hope to have the schedule finished by the end of this month and post if for everyone's review and comments.

Oh posting it this soon will be great Klue. You have me a bit nervous about those triangles though. I'm going to have to gain a lot of confidence to be able to do those! AND....I still have to order my fabric and that special ruler set with the triangle. :D

about 30% of the triangles can be paper pieced so at least those will be easier to deal with.
