you can buy bias, black, 1/4" with iron-on on the back. then just blind-stitch it down.

Like Debbie, I recommend people to practice on heart shapes first so you can do curves, inner and outer points...by the time you have done a few hearts you will feel like a pro...even if you use the hearts to make hot pads, you will have made something useful with your practice pieces, and if you feel more ambitious, you could make hearts for a table runner, or even more for a quilt. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

You CAN do it! Starting is the hardest part. Once you get past that, it's a breeze! :)

If I can, you can...but I truly hate hand work so I use fusible web and just iron that applique on there and when I quilt it, I sew it down then. Really love that raw-edge applique!
