I'm in SC, too, Momto5. Wasn't happy about the hacking notice from SC at all. Even got a few 'spam' notices about it with links to some spam site - I didn't open them. The good news is that my DH and I realized that we had never gotten our Federal and State income tax returns. We were traveling with 'grands' a lot in 2012, so just didn't think of it. Turns out that our electronically filed Federal and State tax returns didn't go through. Our accountant didn't follow up for a confirmation, so he missed it, too.

I never use a debit card. They are too easy to hack, and once your money is gone from your bank account, it's gone. Sometimes the banks will replace your money, but it takes them forever to "investigate" and decide to do it. Sometimes they simply refuse.

We did put credit freezes on our names with all three credit bureaus. Maybe they won't get hacked!!!

I always pre-shop online, get a rough idea of what the cost will be then I get an online card loaded with enough money for the purchase. Some sites don't accept the pre-loaded cards, so I call instead if possible. If the card info is stolen its no loss.

Mine was compromised as well...I wasn't sure which company did it...either Fabric Depot or Connecting threads...because I'd not used my card for quite some time except for these 2 companies. I contacted them on or about January 7th to tell them that had happened to me. Coincidentally that is the date that Fabric Depot said they'd been notified about the problem. Was I the notifier? Who knows and I don't care...just glad that they got right on it.

I found out that Connecting threads was hacked as well so it might have been them. Whoever it was, I had to cancel my card and wait 2 weeks before I was sent another.

Fabric Depot's quick response and offer to recompense does make me warm and fuzzy about Fabric Depot though...no such offer to recompense for my inconvenience coming from Connecting Threads....guess my money will be going to Fabric Depot as much as possible.

I got the letter, from now on strictly Paypal, I just had to have my card replaced since the company cancelled it (without letting me know) and I found out the hard way at the grocery store and on Amazon.

BUT what a sweet deal they gave me in this letter to make up for the inconvenience a 30% of the next order, plus a FQ bundle and $10 gift card with the shipment.....off to shopping soon and OH the fabric they have and the sale ahhhhh
I also received that letter about a week ago. Mine did say that the offense occurred about last October. I called the number given in the letter, and someone called me back and told me which credit card was involved -- and yes, the credit card company had caught the issue at the time, cancelled and issued a new card. BTW, it took them 4 phone calls from me and 3 days to call me for credit card info after I gave them a new order (to get all the goodies promised), since they cannot accept that info online. Who knows if what I ordered was in stock by then. . ?

I had an email from them to this effect. It all looked official but I haven't bought anything from that company. I get emails from them but haven't made a purchase. So I was a bit skeptical of the info.

I received the letter from Fabric Depot, online fraud is a real problem the best solution is to use a Debit Card not a Credit Card for online transactions, then when you purchase something online just top up your card and have a small maximum amount. I buy all my Quilting Fabric from the US.

I do feel so sorry for Fabric Depot and other stores that this happens to, I e-mailed them and told them so, I received a very nice letter back from them, so lets all support Fabric Depot, most stores do not even take the trouble to let you know that their security has been compromised.
