I too prefer the online grouping as stated no politics, mean nasty people etc.. This way I can learn something new and then practice it without someone saying you didn't do this right or that .. If I ask for help that is one thing, but to have someone just come up look at my quilt and tell me things . Ummmmm.. well no thanks I'll pass. NOT big at all on the backstabbing thing either.. (found out I didn't like the guild thing after a few rude women well .. ya know don't need to bring that old subject out!LOL). Don't get me wrong a few friends from the guild and I do get together for quilting about every 3 months as time permits for all of us. We ask for ideas, help and tips from each other, we feel each others input is invaluable. When one has a problem we put our heads together to solve it, and move forward.
That is why I like the board here, helpful hints and when someone needs help and asks for it- everyone rallys to help out not criticize. Have pm'd with some "most wonderful" people on here and love it.

I have never liked or read blogs - that is until this one. I find every one here is so helpful and polite that I never even thought to look somewhere else. Can't imagine that I could learn anything anywhere else that I can't learn here.

When I first moved here to Tn I went to our Club House here and they have a quilting group that meets once a month. I thought yes that is a good way to get some info and also to meet some people. Oh no, I didn't stay very long, (this is mostly a retirement place where I live even though the most land you can purchase is 5 acres), anyway I am not from Florida and my husband was not a policeman so needless to say we were not very welcome. When they found out we both retired from the Post Office I guess they thought I would go postal. I know get all my info from this board.

I, too, have meandered around some and visited other quilting sites. But this is the one I come to every day to visit with my friends while having coffee. I think it is the best run also. Kudos to the facilitators.

I did a search for "quilt forums". There are quite a few. Looked over all the ones on the first page of the search and was not impressed at all. They are not up to the quality I expect, you have forever changed how I look at forums. I expect a forum to be easy to navigate, have tips, instructions, comments etc.. I'm happy here!

I also belong to quilting haven, but didn't find the friendliness or skill level that exists here. If I have a question/issue, I KNOW I will be able to get the answer here, so why even try anywhere else?
