I've STARTED sewing this week, just to be contrary! For one reason and another I hadn't got to my sewing machine for weeks, and the craving just got too strong, so I'm afraid lots of pre-Christmas jobs have been abandoned for the past few days! But I'm lucky -I live alone and have enough room for my quilting things to stay out all the time. And am spending much of Christmas with others, so don't actually have a lot of preparation left to do!

I try and find some balance, but quilting gets more attention. Who needs food!

No, I didn't put it away yesterday, but I did put it in the shop.....so sad. I took a week of vacation this week and had no plans other than sewing all week long. Now, my husband and I have had an argument, things are tense (nothing that won't get resolved) and I feel a shift in the universe......all because of the loss of my wonderful little friend, my sewing machine...

Yes! I put everything away. My sewing table goes out on the porch and with a color coordinated sheet, it becomes my table for storing cookies, candies, ham and whatever doesn't fit into the refrigerator. Then when the tree comes down (sad day here), I completely redo my little sewing area - how big is it? Big enough to fit a nice sized Christmas tree and gifts!!, and prepare for the new year's sewing that I am going to do. I recycle some of the fabrics that I am not going to use in the near future to a neighbor who is just starting out sewing and doesn't have too big of a stash and then my brain starts a'clickin' away as to what is planned for the new year. I am going to make my friend a quilt, I would like to make a year round table cloth for our antique round oak table and also a Christmas table cloth, I would like to make a little doll quilt for our little neighbor who will be playing with dolls soon! I have all kinds of ideas brewing up there in that old grey matter! Now, if I HAD a sewing room or an area big enough to store everything neatly, I wouldn't put everything away, but yes, I would stop sewing with the "sew-sheen" (my sister used to call a sewing machine a sew-sheen. It stuck!!!! She was a lingerie designer for Vassarette and has done her fair share of sewing). But, if I had anything that had to be hand sewn, like embroidery or binding, that I would do in my spare time during the holidays. I am actually doing that right now. I am making a quilt with 23 different colors, cross stitch embroidery - been working on it for two years now and am still on the red (first color) - three shades of red!!!!!!! But I only work on it during Christmas or when I take the mother to the doctor or dentist. It'll be pretty when I am done. Actually, I should work on it when I sit outside during the spring and summer, but I do like to take my machine out on the patio and sew outside! That is neat too. Lot of work bringing out and taking in, but it's really nice to work outside. Enough! Edie

I sew up a storm at Christmas. I'm off work for two weeks. I will sew all day on Christmas too. Family gets together on the 26th . Not at my house either. No room for everyone.

It is bad luck to put it away or close the door. Last Thur I thought I had finished the last doll dress (I dressed 6 dolls this year, including one with 20 outfits) so I closed the door to the sewing room and said I will clean you in Jan. Two hours later I got a call saying one of the dolls I had done had accidentally been given to another family. So you guessed it. Sunday after church I made a dress, overall, shirt, nightgown, panties and a blanket. But another little girl will get a doll from Santa. This time I just closed the door and made no statement.

I only put things away when I know we have someone coming to stay the night. Otherwise, I keep it all pretty well organized so I don't have a RUSH job of moving things! Merry Christmas to all of you - thank you for all you have shared over these past few months! I look forward to these postings on a daily, morning coffee, basis! lol

No. I always have mine out. But my sewing room is the entire second floor of our house. Previous owners converted part of the attic into 1 big bedroom for their daughter. Our daughters grew up in it and now that they are gone, it is my sewing room. Only bad parts are climbing the stairs up and down all day (so it's now part of my daily exercise LOL) and the sloped ceiling. It's my hideaway. Visitors are always welcome up there (unless it is young children) but most people don't like the stairs as they are kind of narrow.

No, I have a sewing room and when my granddaughter visits during the Christmas break, we sew together.
