Doing a Niemeyer quilt pattern-first time

YIKES I have yet to Paper Piece even a sample but I have a few PP patterns anyway (someday). Have fun with the class! Just as an aside, I lived next door to Judy's Mom and her Mom is quite the quilter herself! She makes scrappys of every kind and is the fastest sewer ever! Her entire house is quilts, quilt pieces, sewing machines, quilts on the beds, in the closets by size (last time I was over there she said..."this is the baby quilt closet") I bought one for my new baby grandson, but she gave me a quilt from her finished pile of bigger sized quilts! I gave her a big stack of blues 5 inch squares. Her and I swapped, talked, breathed fabric...I just loved her! We also threw in halves one time on an ebay deal and after I gave her her share, she came over with a new blouse from the fabric the very next day! As for Judy...I saw her a few times...she has such a busy schedule that we have never met.

I have never tried paper piecing but really admire Niemeyer quilts.
Just yesterday I bought Judy's Wild Goose Chase pattern.

On her website, she says this pattern is for beginners, but I am intimidated just by the length of the instructions. Yikes!
I am looking forward to the challenge. Let us know how your class goes. I will start mine by the end of the week.

Elise, If I can give you one piece of advice, read the instructions and then read them again. Then get several plastic bags and bag your patterns up as she instructs.
My first pattern I did by hand sewingthrough the paper with back stitches. It worked well and I gained a lot of "how to do it" knowledge.

I did JN Wedding Ring Star years ago. I found it easy to do. All the pieces for the quilt contained the paper so it was quite a fat pattern.
It's a shame that she doesn't offer just the main pattern pieces so the pattern wouldn't be so expensive for those who can't afford those prices and offer the extra paper patterns for those who can.
I never did use all the paper. I did a copy on the printer of the main pieces onto freezer paper and used those over and over to do the entire quilt, so in this instance, for me that is, I didn't need all that paper.
