I updated to EQ7, never used it much, but wanted to watch the videos. Finally signed up for a class through Quilt University and LOVE it. I work at my own pace, but check into the class frequently.

I didnt think to do a site search on EQ7. I think this is what my Christmas present will end up being - I can start figuring out Valintines Day and my BD after this LOl. sharet

The user manual is easy to read. It starts with simple lessons not at all technical.

Get the reader, EQ7 will take you some time to get the hang of and the reader is ready to go.

If you read alot that would be my choice. I have both a reader (Kindle) and EQ6.

Unless you're designing quilts or blocks on a daily basis, you'll probably get more out of the reader. Just my opinion.

Have fun either way and congrats on your gifty.

I use it all the time, have for the last 10 years. Watch the videos. You can scan fabric into the program to design a quilt with actual visual of how it looks, switch the blocks around to see what effect you get. I also like that you get actual yardage needed for a quillt, not wasting money or fabric. It is initially expensive but if you plan on being in it for the long hall, it is forth it. Upgrades are made available at a reasonable cost as well as special software programs.

I use mine a lot for previewing color choices rather than *designing* quilts. I generally design or sketch with a pencil first and then run it through EQ. If you are not doing photo quilts, EQ6 is fine. I have EQ7 and the only upgrade I find useful is the ability to easily turn images into quilt patches.
